When you think of beef for supper the most common meals that come to mind are hamburgers and steaks. However, there are many more meal options when you consider other cuts of beef. If you are worried about how to cook some of the other cuts offered or are simply looking for some recipe inspiration don't worry - we can help with that! Sign up to receive our 'Guide to Cooking Through a Box of Beef' for recipes and kitchen tips on how to cook a bunch of different cuts that are featured in our beef boxes. Ordering a quarter or half of a beef is the most economical way to purchase our beef (think bulk purchasing) but does require a significant upfront investment. We offer a standard cut quarter or a custom cut half. The standard cut quarter is available year round in our online store but the custom cut half is only available in limited quantities every few months. By ordering a custom cut half, you will receive a mix of cuts and you will have input on how your beef is cut. Want larger roasts? T-bones instead of New York steaks? Beef jerky? All of this is customizable! For more information on pricing and the process of ordering a half beef check the product page or give us a call.
All of the beef that we sell is born, raised, pastured and fed on our farm. You can rest assured that everytime you purchase beef from us that it really did come from our farm. Many butchers and grocery stores purchase large muscle cuts called primals from large distributers and then cut and wrap them into the cuts you see in their coolers. This means that that beef may not be locally raised even though it comes from your local butcher.
Yes, all our cattle are raised without added hormones, but that doesn't mean added hormones in beef are bad! It's just not something that's part of our current management practices. For more information on added hormones in beef, head on over to Alberta Beef Producers.
Yes - all meat is antibiotic free! Antibiotics are critical to maintain the highest standard of animal welfare; we only use them to treat sick animals. Any treatment we administer is recorded and withdrawal times are strictly adhered to so that the meat is safe for human consumption. Our dedication to low stress handling, pasture calving, fenceline weaning and extended grazing means that we rarely use antibiotics because our animals stay healthy. Visit Alberta Beef Producers for some good info on antibiotics and beef production!
All the beef you purchase from our family is born and raised on our farm. This means that we don't restock by purchasing more steaks from another source. Instead we have to sell all the cuts from an animal before we restock the products that we have run short on. Restock time can be as long as two months or as little as two days.
